It made my heart smile when T told me that she wanted to do some mommy and me pictures with her little girl.  As I look back on the last 11 months of my son’s life, I realize that as both the mom and the photographer – I’m all too often behind the camera.  And most of my clients tell me they same thing!  It always seems to be mom behind the camera.

My favorite part of the shoot, was that T brought her little girl out to Clayton to the very spot where she and her husband were married.  T’s face lit up when we got there. I love when my clients pick meaningful locations for the pictures.  I think the emotional attachment always shows through.

One of my absolute favorite things about becoming a photographer is capturing newborns.  Since having my son and really understanding how quickly those first few days/weeks/months truly go, I just cherish getting to spend time with brand new babies.  I love seeing their flaking new skin, the tiny tiny hands and feet and just seeing how amazing these little humans are.  When my good friend Jenni asked me to take pictures of her baby Blythe, I was not only flattered, I was excited!

Jenni and her husband have wanted a baby for a long time and little baby B is just perfect.  It melts my heart to see them with her.

Here are just a few shots of little baby Blythe sleeping peacefully.  She couldn’t have been a better baby!

This dress was special to Jenni, so we took a few shots of it.  I thought Blythe looked so cute!

As I sit here stuffed from a wonderful dinner and an incredible day with family, I can’t help but feel incredibly fortunate for what I have in my life. I am blessed to be married to a wonderful and hilarious man. I have an incredible baby boy whose world is changing, growing, and broadening daily. I have family just a short car ride away. (And I have a lot of family, so it almost doesn’t matter which direction we drive!)

And above that, I’m thankful that everyone around me has encouraged me to find the strength to change my future. It wasn’t so long ago that I was LONGING to start my own business. I spent a good deal of time wondering how the photographers I admired found the courage to pick up their cameras and just do it and aching to do it myself. I couldn’t be where I am today without the love of those around me. I feel blessed to be walking down the road that I have chosen. And I can only hope that I can continue to grow in my craft.

Since I’m all mushy and this post very quickly turn into a warm and fuzzy sob-fest, I’ll just go ahead and post some of my favorites from a recent family session.

Emily contacted me when she was traveling to California from the East Coast. She’s a photographer herself and wanted some family photos now that her little guy is getting bigger. I’m always incredibly flattered when other photographers choose me to capture their families, and I always get a little nervous. (It’s a lot of pressure when a client knows as much about the technicalities of a shoot as I do!) But of course Emily and her husband were complete sweet hearts and it was a blast to talk shop during a shoot. And the best part was that they pretty much posed themselves.

We spent the morning wandering around the Stanford University Campus and had a blast playing around and getting completely lost. Thank you Steve Jobs for putting maps in all of our iphones. I’m not sure anyone could function on that campus without one. It’s huge!

Thank you J family for spending some time with me on your trip. I enjoyed finally getting to meet you and little Topher.

What do ruined Thanksgivings dinners have in common with photoshoots? Ok, honestly not much, but J and I did spend a good 15 minutes comparing war stories about the food holiday. And it was hilarious. (Is there anything funnier than forgotten innards?  I think not.)  I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. I love my clients. They crack me up! I have a mush 13 year old girl crush on all of them.

I was lucky enough to get a SECOND chance to shoot little miss Charlotte right after her first birthday.  She has always been a doll and now that she’s all over the place, I’m pretty sure she’s even cuter.  She’s so curious!  And happy to get into anything she could find.

Thank you D family for letting me drag you around San Francisco – and even braving the Chinatown grounds!  I had a blast.

These two were some of the most adorable kids I’ve ever had the pleasure of capturing.  Sure, they made me work for every single shot I got, but I got to hear about their favorite toys.  I learned that their dad really really likes football.  And I was told about how big and fun their dogs are.  I hope I get a chance to chase them around for a full session in the near future.

When I planned these sessions, I stuck an early slot in there genuinely thinking that I’d have to beg and plead someone to get up that early on a cold fall morning.  Thankfully I never had to do that! Alison jumped on the chance to join me at 8am.  I was so pumped to have such and awesome family to shoot first thing.  And don’t let the pleasant smiles fool you, these three are hilarious.
